Who first applied SLA to second language acquisition?
Its first application to second language acquisition is usually credited to Larsen-Freeman ( 1997 ). The key question in SLA which CT and related theories address has been viewed from a linguistic perspective for more than fifty years, as discussed in Chapter 3 : What accounts for the nature and order of language develop-ment?
What is second language acquisition?
Any other language learned or acquired is known as the second language. Second language acquisition, or SLA, has two meanings. In a general sense it is a term to describe learning a second language. More specifically, it is the name of the theory of the process by which we acquire - or pick up - a second language.
What is second language learning?
These include perception and the input of new information; the formation, organization, and regulation of internal (mental) representations; and retrieval and output strategies. (1) Second language learning is the acquisition of a complex cognitive skill. In this respect language learning is like the acquisition of other complex skills.
How does linguistics influence first language acquisition?
