An angle less than a right angle is called an acute angle and an angle greater than a right angle is called an obtuse angle y β= 180° 540°900° etc Φ= 270° 450° 810° - 90° etc δ= 0° 360°720° etc 360° is one full revolution A right angle 90° is 90/360 = 1/4 revolution

PDF Unit 6: Day 6: Primary Trigonometric Ratios and Obtuse Angles

Investigate connections between primary trigonometric ratios of acute angles and obtuse angles Determine the values of the sine ratio cosine ratio and tangent ratio for obtuse angles Learning Goal: Investigate connections between primary trigonometric ratios of acute angles and obtuse angles

  • How to calculate obtuse angle?

An obtuse angle has measure between 90 ∘ and 180 ∘. In this section we will define the trigonometric ratios of an obtuse angle as follows. Place the angle θ in standard position and choose a point P with coordinates (x, y) on the terminal side. The distance from the origin to P is √x2 + y2. The trigonometric ratios of θ are defined as follows.

  • Is AOB a O B obtuse?

    If |∡AOB| > π 2 | ∡ A O B | > π 2, we say that ∠AOB ∠ A O B is obtuse. On the diagrams, the right angles will be marked with a little square, as shown. If ∠AOB ∠ A O B is right, we say also that [OA) [ O A) is perpendicular to [OB) [ O B); it will be written as [OA) ⊥ [OB) [ O A) ⊥ [ O B).

  • Do trig ratios work for obtuse angles?

Our new definitions for the trig ratios work just as well for obtuse angles, even though θ is not technically "inside" a triangle, because we use the coordinates of P instead of the sides of a triangle to compute the ratios.

  • Which tangent ratio is negative for obtuse angles?

Notice first of all that becaus e x-coordinates are negative in the second quadrant, the [latex]\\cos [/latex] and tangent ratios are both negative for obtuse angles. For example, in the figure below, the point [latex] (-4, 3) [/latex] lies on the terminal side of the angle θ. We see that r = √( − 4)2 + 32 = 5, so Example 3.4. Example 3.4.

  • Pourquoi Dit-on angle obtus ?

Il se dit, par analogie, en termes de Géométrie, d'un Angle plus grand, plus ouvert qu'un angle droit. Angle obtus. Fig., Esprit obtus, Esprit peu pénétrant, qui a de la peine à concevoir.

What are the characteristics of an obtuse angle?

  • Property 1: The longest side of a triangle is the side opposite to the obtuse angle.
  • Property 2: A triangle can only have one obtuse angle.
  • Property 3: The sum of the other two angles in an obtuse triangle is always smaller than 90xb0.

What are examples of an obtuse angle in real life?

  • Obtuse angles are seen on most house rooftops, as the two roof surfaces slope down from it.
. Other real world examples of an obtuse angle include the angle between the screen and the base of an opened laptop, a hockey stick, an accordion hand fan and between the wings of a boomerang.
. In general, obtuse angles are observed whenever two sides, arms or surfaces deviate widely.
