What is the packet details window in Wireshark?
The packet details pane shows the current packet (selected in the “Packet List” pane) in a more detailed form.
This pane shows the protocols and protocol fields of the packet selected in the “Packet List” pane. What information is displayed in the packet list pane?
The packet list pane displays all the packets in the current capture file.
Each line in the packet list corresponds to one packet in the capture file.
If you select a line in this pane, more details will be displayed in the “Packet Details” and “Packet Bytes” panes. What are the 3 panes in Wireshark?
Wireshark shows you three different panes for inspecting packet data.
The Packet List, the top pane, lists all the packets in the capture.
When you click on a packet, the other two panes change to show you the details about the selected packet.
You can also tell if the packet is part of a conversation. You can do this by double-clicking on an item in the packet list or by selecting the packet in which you are interested in the packet list pane and selecting View → Show Packet in New Window.
This allows you to easily compare two or more packets, even across multiple files.
