How does fertilization occur in bees?
Queen honey bees are fascinating creatures that determine the success or failure of the colony.
Her oviducts hold most of the sperm she collects, equating to about 100 million sperm.
This is the sperm she will use to immediately fertilize eggs.
The remaining 5 to 6 million sperm will be stored in her spermathecal.
How is a queen bee conceived?
Queens are raised from the same fertilised female eggs as workers bees.
A newly hatched female larva is neither queen or worker caste.
There are small differences in the composition of royal jelly fed to larvae destined to be a queen or a worker.
What is the process of bee mating?
A male drone will mount the queen and insert his endophallus, ejaculating semen.
After ejaculation, a male honey bee pulls away from the queen, though his endophallus is ripped from his body, remaining attached to the newly fertilized queen.
The term "bee lining" refers to the behavior of the honey bees which, after completely filling their honey crop with food or water, will fly directly back to their hive.
This is origin of the phrase “make a bee line.” Swarms of honey bees can establish new colonies in any suitable cavity.

The difference between a worker and the queen bee is made three days after the egg transforms into larvae and six days after the egg is laid in the beehive.Autres questions
