The simple answer is YES.
But it isn't going to happen overnight.
A million speakers is a headline maker – but to get there we need to encourage people to use Welsh more often, in more places.
We need to nurture the belief that Welsh, as a language, belongs to us all.
Is Welsh speaking increasing?
The smallest number of speakers was recorded in 1981 with 503,000 although the lowest percentage was recorded in the most recent census in 2021 at 17.8 per cent.
By the start of the 21st century, numbers began to increase once more, at least partly as a result of the increase in Welsh-medium education.
How many people will speak Welsh in 2050?
