Does the 1974 convention have a tacit acceptance procedure?
The 1974 version includes the tacit acceptance procedure - which provides that an amendment shall enter into force on a specified date unless, before that date, objections to the amendment are received from an agreed number of Parties. As a result the 1974 Convention has been updated and amended on numerous occasions.
Does the International Convention for the safety of life at sea apply?
As between the Parties to the present Protocol, the provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, as amended, (hereinafter referred to as ‘‘the Convention’’) shall apply subject to the modifications and additions set out in the present Protocol.
What provisions are not applicable to ships built after 1 October 1994?
The following provision in paragraph 3.1.2 shall not apply to ships constructed on or after 1 October 1994: Unless a second independent means of starting the emergency generating set is provided, the single source of stored energy shall be protected to preclude its complete depletion by the automatic starting system. 3.4.
