What is the European and Mediterranean plant protection organization?
The European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization is an intergovernmental organization responsible for cooperation in plant health within the Euro-Mediterranean region. EPPO (European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization)
How are plant variety rights protected in the EU?
EU legislation provides a framework for protection of plant variety rights in all 28 EU countries, largely superseding the UK’s longstanding national system. EU plant variety rights are managed by the Community Plant Variety Office ( CPVO ), an EU agency.
How do we protect the Mediterranean region?
To best protect the Mediterranean region, the relevant Member States and key stakeholders team up to devise nature protection measures, tailored to suit the particular needs of the entire region and to target its specific pressures.
Who is responsible for Plant Health in the EU?
At EU level, responsibility for plant health lies with Directorate General Health & Food Safety (DG Sante). In collective terms, this legislation is commonly referred to as the Community Plant Health Regime (CPHR). EU plant health is currently legislated for within Council Directive 2000/29/EC (adopted 8th May 2000).
