What is the MARC Code List for languages?
The MARC Code List for Languages contains a list of languages and their associated three-character alphabetic codes. The purpose of this list is to allow the designation of the language or languages in MARC records.
Where can I find a list of UNIMARC codes?
The list of codes is to be found in UNIMARC Manual - Bibliographic Format Appendix C. Repeatable. term added to a subject heading to further specify the kind(s) or genre(s) of material (EX 6). Agencies not using this subdivision should use $x instead (EX 5). Repeatable.
What is a sign language code?
In November 1995 the Library of Congress announced new language codes to be incorporated intothe 1996 edition of the USMARC Code List for Languages. Among the new codes is a newlyestablished one for Sign languages: sgn. The code is a general one used to indicate "sign language"in a generic sense.
What is a language code?
The codes are usually based on the first three letters of the English form or, in some cases, vernacular form of the corresponding language name. The codes are varied where necessary to resolve conflicts and are not intended to be abbreviations of a language name.
