La course d'orientation est un sport où les pratiquants utilisent une carte et une boussole pour trouver leur itinéraire dans le but de rallier des points de contrôle qui forment un parcours préétabli.
- Échelle et équidistance
l'échelle des cartes de course d'orientation pour la compétition est comprise entre 1; 4000 et 1: 15000 (1 cm sur la carte correspond à 15000 cm sur le terrain soit 150 m). la différence verticale entre deux courbes de niveau est appetée équidistance, elle est généralement de 5 m.
