How does the F-35 work?
The F-35 is more than a fighter jet, it's a powerful force multiplier with advanced sensors and communications suites operating close to the battlefield and from an elevated position significantly enhancing the capabilities of networked airborne, maritime, space, surface and ground-based platforms.
What is the composition of the F-35?
Structurally, the F-35 drew upon lessons from the F-22; composites comprise 35% of airframe weight, with the majority being bismaleimide and composite epoxy materials as well as some carbon nanotube-reinforced epoxy in later production lots.
The nine major partner nations, including the U.S., plan to acquire over 3,100 F-35s through 2035, which, if delivered will make the F-35 one of the most numerous jet fighters.
What is the operating range of F-35?
4.
It has range and mission persistence.
The F-35C carries nearly 20,000 lbs of internal fuel and has a range of greater than 1,200 nm.
The enables F-35C pilots to fly further and remain in a desired battlespace longer before refueling is necessary.
