We are an agency like no other.
We protect public safety by ensuring that federal offenders serve their sentences of imprisonment in facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure, and provide reentry programming to ensure their successful return to the community.How many prisoners are in the US?
Preliminary data shows that at the end of 2022, there were 1,230,100 people in prison in the US, a 2% increase from 2021.
