What are the components of the FFT?
The basic functions for FFT-based signal analysis are the FFT, the Power Spectrum, and the Cross Power Spectrum.
Using these functions as building blocks, you can create additional measurement functions such as frequency response, impulse response, coherence, amplitude spectrum, and phase spectrum.What are the requirements for FFT?
Because the FFT function uses a base 2 logarithm by definition, it requires that the range or length of the time series to be evaluated contains a total number of data points precisely equal to a 2-to-the-nth-power number (e.g., 512, 1024, 2048, etc.).
- Sample rate, i.e. the amount of time between each value in the input. Sample rate has an impact on the frequencies which can be measured by the FFT.
- FFT size, the number of output frequency bins of the FFT.
