Do I need to check if I am a British citizen?
You need to check if you’re a British citizen. You may be eligible to apply for citizenship if you were born in the UK and are not automatically a British citizen. To apply as the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen you must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. If you do, you’ll be eligible to apply for citizenship immediately.
Can I lose my nationality to become a British citizen?
Some countries do not allow dual citizenship and you may therefore lose, or have to give up, your existing nationality in order to become a British citizen. If you have any questions about this, you should seek advice from the country of which you are a citizen before making your application.
How do I apply for British nationality?
For your application to succeed you will need to show that you satisfy a number of requirements that are set out in British nationality law. This guide will help you to fill in the nationality forms. It tells you what information to put into sections of the application.
