What are the conditions for a light interference pattern?
In order for an interference pattern to develop, the incoming light must satisfy two conditions: The light sources must be coherent. This means that the plane waves from the sources must maintain a constant phase relation. The light must be monochromatic. This means that the light has just one wavelength.
How can diffraction be used to confirm Heisenberg's uncertainty principle?
By scanning the pattern with a light sensor and plotting light intensity versus distance, differences and similarities between interference and diffraction are examined. What is interference and diffraction?
In this unit we are going to explore the wave phenomena of interference and diffraction. The fringes that Young produced in his famous experiment are the result of what is known as double-slit interference. Interference occurs when two or more waves occupy the same space at the same time.
What is interference based on a superposition principle?
