What is the International sugar Council?
The International Sugar Organization is the unique intergovernmental body devoted to improving conditions on the world's sugar market through Debate, Analysis, Special Studies, Transparent Statistics, Seminars, Conferences and Workshops.

Currently, about 110 countries produce sugar from either cane or beet, and eight countries produce sugar from both cane and beet.

In its 63rd council meeting, International Sugar Organisation (ISO), headquartered in London, has announced India to be the Chair of the organisation for 2024.
This is a huge achievement for the country to lead the global sugar sector and reflection of growing stature of the country in this domain.India tops the list of sugar consumers in the world, with an estimated 29.5 million metric tonnes of sugar consumption in 2022/23.
The European Union follows India as the second largest sugar consumer, with a projected 17 million metric tonnes of sugar consumption in the same period.
