PDF The mathspec package

This document describes the mathspecpackage a package that provides an interface to select ordinary text fonts for typesetting mathematics with XƎLaTEX It relies on fontspecto work and familiarity with fontspecis advised I thank Will Robertson for his useful advice and suggestions!

  • What typefaces can be used for a complete mathematical expression?

The following example shows calligraphic, fraktur and blackboard bold typefaces: It is possible to set a different font family for a complete mathematical expression: In this case, not only letters but all characters change their appearance; for example, $\\mathit {3x^2}$ italicises the entire expression to produce 3 x 2 .

  • Should I use STIX fonts if I'm using a LaTeX package?

If you are using another LaTEX package for some mathematics font, then you should not (unless you know what you are doing). If you want to use Asana Math or Cambria Math (or the final release version of the stix fonts) then you should be using unicode-math. Some paragraphs in this document are marked advanced.

  • Does setmainfont with mathspec change the math Roman font?

But \\setmainfont with mathspec does not change the math roman font without an additional call to \\setmathrm. @Will I am using the code \\usepackage {mathspec} along with \\setmathsfont (Digits,Latin,Greek) {Latin Modern Math}.

  • Does mathspec still have a place in latex?

@Leo mathspec still has its place. unicode-math goes a little overboard with assuming that you actually have a unicode maths font. A plain LaTeX solution: The mathastext package. If you do not wish to otherwise change your maths symbols, the best solution is to use the mathspec package:

Introduction

Some mathematical elements need to be typeset using fonts containing characters/symbols of a certain style; for example, it is customary to represent real numbers with a blackboard bold font (such as RR), or topological spaces with calligraphic font (such as (TT). This article shows how to use different font styles when typesetting mathematics, sta

Capital Letters-Only Font Typefaces

There are some font typefaces which support only a limited number of characters; these fonts usually denote some special sets. For instance, to display the R in blackboard bold typeface you can use \\(\\mathbb{R}\\) to produce RR. The following example shows calligraphic, fraktur and blackboard bold typefaces: Open this example in Overleaf This exampl

Other Mathematical Fonts

It is possible to set a different font family for a complete mathematical expression: Open this example in Overleaf This example produces the following output: In this case, not only letters but all characters change their appearance; for example, $\\mathit{3x^2}$ italicises the entire expression to produce 3x23x2. overleaf.com
