Why is 8086 a 16-bit microprocessor?
The 8086 (also called iAPX 86) is a 16-bit microprocessor chip designed by Intel between early 1976 and June 8, 1978, when it was released.
What is 8086 instruction?
.
1) The 8086 is a 16-bit microprocessor.
The term “16-bit” means that its arithmetic logic unit, internal registers and most of its instructions are designed to work with 16-bit binary words. .
2) The 8086 has a 16-bit data bus, so it can read data from or write data to memory and ports either 16 bits or 8 bits at a time. What is 8086 microprocessor?
The 8086 microprocessor has two main execution units: the execution unit (EU) and the bus interface unit (BIU).
The BIU is responsible for fetching instructions from memory and decoding them, while the EU executes the instructions.
The BIU also manages data transfer between the microprocessor and memory or I/O devices.
