What is a financial attestation service?
Companies produce financial information that goes beyond historical financial state-ments. Examples include financial forecasts and detailed schedules for specific accounts. When CPAs are hired to report on the integrity of this type of financial information, it is called an attestation service.
What are assurance attestation & auditing?
The terms assurance, attestation, and auditing are sometimes used interchangeably, but they actually represent diferent types of services. They are similar in that they all represent a com-mon process of an independent accounting firm taking information prepared by someone else and comparing that information to an established set of criteria.
What are CPA attestation standards?
The attestation standards establish three forms of CPA attestation engagements— examinations, reviews, and the performance of agreed-upon procedures. An examination referred to as an audit when it involves financial statements, normally results in a positive opinion, the highest form of assurance about whether the information follows the criteria.
How do I perform a CPA attestation engagement?
To perform an attest engagement there must be suitable criteria to judge the fairness of the information being reported on. The attestation standards establish three forms of CPA attestation engagements— examinations, reviews, and the performance of agreed-upon procedures.
