With corporate-owned devices, IT teams can use Apple Business Manager to automate device enrollment — quickly and easily providing devices to users without having to physically touch or prepare each device. By using supervision, IT can access controls unavailable for other deployment models.
What's new in Apple business manager?
The Device Enrollment Program (DEP) and the Volume Purchase Program (VPP) are now completely integrated into Apple Business Manager, so organizations can bring together everything needed to deploy Apple devices. These programs will no longer be available starting December 1, 2019.
How do I link my MDM solution to Apple business manager?
Link your MDM solution. To use MDM for distribution, you must first link your MDM solution to a location in Apple Business Manager using a secure token. To download your token, go Settings > Apps and Books and select the appropriate location token. Upload this token to your MDM server to establish the link.
Overview
You can add the following devices using Apple Configurator to Apple Business Manager, even if they weren’t purchased directly from Apple or from an Apple Authorized Reseller or cellular carrier: •iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV devices using Apple Configurator for Mac. •iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers (running macOS 12.0.1 or later) with Apple silicon or the Apple T2 Security Chip using Apple Configurator for iPhone. After you’ve set up the device or devices, they behave like any other device already in Apple Business Manager, with mandatory supervision and mobile device management (MDM) enrollment. The device can then be shut down and stored until needed or sent to the user. If the device is given to a user, they have a 30-day provisional period to release the device from Apple Business Manager, supervision, and MDM. This 30-day provisional period begins after the device is successfully assigned to and enrolled in: support.apple.com

After a device is added by Apple Configurator, it’s placed into a group named “Apple Configurator” in the Devices section in Apple Business Manager. You can then assign the device to one of your MDM servers. After assigning a device to an MDM server, any settings assigned by Apple Configurator are no longer used for MDM enrollment. Important: You may need to refresh the list of devices in your MDM solution before these newly added devices appear. 1.In Apple Business Manager , sign in with a user that has the role of Administrator or Device Enrollment Manager. 2.Select Devices in the sidebar, then select Filter. 3.Select Source, then select Manually Added and Apple Configurator, then select Search. 4.Select one or more devices, then select Edit next to Edit MDM Server . support.apple.com
