  • What is a healthy diet for a 1 year old?

    Foods need to be rich in energy and nutrients.
    In addition to grains and potatoes, be sure your baby has vegetables and fruits, legumes and seeds, a little energy-rich oil or fat, and – especially – animal foods (dairy, eggs, meat, fish and poultry) every day.

  • What should babies eat at 12 months?

    Children younger than 24 months old should avoid added sugars.
    Foods high in salt (sodium), such as some canned foods, processed meats (e.g., lunch meats, sausages, hot dogs, ham), and frozen dinners should be avoided.
    Some snack foods and store-bought packaged toddler foods are high in salt.

  • What should babies eat on a balanced diet?

    Now your toddler is 12 months old, they should be having 3 meals a day.
    They may also need 2 healthy weaning snacks in between (for example fruit, vegetable sticks, toast, bread or plain yoghurt).
    Remember, your child does not need salt or sugar added to their food or cooking water.

Each meal needs to be packed with nutritious food. Be sure your child has a portion of animal foods (milk, dairy, eggs, meat, fish and poultry) each day, plus legumes (like chickpeas, lentils or peas) – or nuts, and orange or green vegetables and fruits. Add a little oil or fat to their food for energy.
