What are the big 3 exercises for core stability?
The McGill Big 3 are three exercises - the curl up, the side bridge, and the bird dog - put together by leading authority, Dr Stuart McGill, to help treat and prevent lower back pain and injuries.20 oct. 2023
What are the 5 McKenzie exercises?
The stages of McKenzie's exercises are prone lying, prone lying while resting on elbows, prone push-ups, progressive extension using pillows and standing extension.
Numerous variations of the McKenzie sequence exist which add or remove stages according to interpretation of the original sequence. How often should the McGill Big 3 be performed? Dr McGill's recommendation is to perform these exercises three times a week.
They can be incorporated into a warm-up routine or added in between conditioning exercises or compound lifts.
- The McGill Curl Up. Lie down on your back. Extend one leg and bend the knee of the other leg.
- The Side Bridge. Lie on your side, with your forearm on the floor and elbow underneath your shoulder.
- The Bird Dog. Assume a hands-and-knees position on the floor.
