Why does Ofcom regulate BBC?
Our job is to ensure that the BBC is delivering for audiences, and hold it to account for fulfilling its Mission and Public Purposes.
We also regulate the BBC's editorial standards and complaints, and work to protect fair and effective competition.

Can you complain to Ofcom about the BBC?

If however, you have made a complaint to the BBC, but the BBC has failed to provide a response within its own deadlines (these are contained in the BBC Complaints Framework), or you consider that exceptional circumstances apply, you can complain directly to Ofcom.

Our audience research also shows the BBC’s impartiality remains a key area of concern with its audiences. Although they rate its news highly for trust and accuracy, they consistently rate it less favourably on impartiality. Our consultation on the BBC’s new Operating Licence is open until 14 September 2022.
