Why does the BBC have a purpose remit?
These are: In promoting its other purposes, helping to deliver to the public the benefit of emerging communications technologies and services and, in addition, taking a leading role in the switchover to digital television. For each of these public purposes, the Trust gives the BBC a purpose remit.

This is an historic year for the UK, and the BBC’s role in providing news and information to help audiences understand and engage with key stories and events is more important than ever.
