Why do people recommend the K&R book for beginners?
I don't understand why people recommend the K&R book for beginners. This book is brutal, most beginners can't get past the first few exercises. It's written for experienced programmers who want to learn C and, while it's a fine book, there are much better choices. You'll be much happier with K. N. King's C Programming: A Modern Approach.
What is a good book to learn C programming?
Thank you. K&R is a must-read, especially for historical context, but the best book for a newbie is K.N. King's C Programming: A Modern Approach 2nd Edition I learned C with K&R in the 80's. After a long pause (doing boring programs for the financial industry), I went back to C and read King's book.
Which book should I read first – effective C or K & R?
K & R for a first read and culture followed by Effective C . This is the only answer...it's perfect for newbies, has great exercises, is very well-written, and you can't beat learning from the creators of the language themselves. Addendum: I have perused a few of the other books I see recommended from time-to-time.
Should I learn C++ Primer?
It’s good if you prefer learning by working through some examples. But if you want more of a reference-style text, C++ Primer would be preferable. If you have previous experience in programming, i recommend "The C++ programming language", by Bjarne Stroustrup.
