bit masking calculator
What is a bitwise calculator?
The Bitwise Calculator is used to perform bitwise AND, bitwise OR, bitwise XOR (bitwise exclusive or) operations on two integers. It is also possible to perform bit shift operations on integral types.
Why do we use a bitmask?
So, only the middle four bits (as these bits are 1 in this mask) remain. Now, the middle four bits are flipped ( 1 became 0, 0 became 1 ). So, using a bitmask, we can access individual bits (examples). Sometimes, this technique may also be used for improving performance. Take this for example- This function tells if an integer is odd/even.
What is the difference between 31-bit prefixed mask and limited broadcast?
In 31-bit prefixed mask, that is used by Point-to-Point Links is no directed broadcast. Any packet which is transmitted by one client is always received by the other. Limited broadcast (255.255.255.255) is obsolete, but may still be used in a network. First usable IP address is the next one of network address.
How to mask a bit in JavaScript?
The AND bitwise operator can be used to mask bits off. We often use the AND bitwise operation to mask off some bits, as a 0 in a certain bit position will make the result ‘0’, while a ‘1’ at this position will preserve the value of the bit. For example the following are bit masks for 1, 2 and 3:
