Can the A380 be converted to a freighter?
An A380 converted freighter has merit, but only if there is significant interest to recover the non-recurring development, testing and certification costs associated with a major alteration, said Stan Wraight, co-founder and president of Strategic Aviation Solutions International, an aviation consultancy._{5 avr. 2021}
Can the A380 be used for cargo?
The Airbus A380, the largest commercial aircraft currently flying, does not currently have a freighter/cargo variant and it is very unlikely that we will see one in the future.
However, Airbus did originally have plans for an A380F that were cancelled after a few years.
Why is there no A380 freighter?
While the A380-800 eventually found success with airlines like Emirates, it couldn't achieve the initial ambitious targets set by Airbus.
The program's financial struggles and delays in production meant that Airbus was preoccupied with these challenges, and the A380 Freighter became a lower priority.
The A380-800F has a payload capacity of 150,000kg with a range of 10,410km.
The upper deck, which has a maximum width of 5.92m, accommodates 17 pallets, while the main deck, maximum width 6.58m, holds 28 pallets and the lower deck 13 pallets.
The total hold volume is 1,134m³.

The airframer's conversion involves removal of passenger seats and the fitting of freight pallets on seat tracks. Lufthansa Technik's work marks the emergence of A380s for freighter work some 13 years after a dedicated A380 freighter programme was effectively halted by a withdrawal of customer interest.
