What is the CARES Act?
This is an overview of three key provisions in the CARES Act with estimates of Florida’s share of funding. The CARES Act includes a $150 billion Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) for states to address the impacts of the coronavirus crisis. The CRF includes $3 billion for Washington DC and U.S. territories and $8 billion for Tribal governments.

Local governments with a population of at least 500,000 also were eligible for direct payments. At this point, the CARES Act is a familiar name in state capitols. But the hard work for legislatures and governors has been allocating the funds.

The Department of Elder Affairs is responsible for the federal program in partnership with the Agency for Health Care Administration. There are 17 CARES field offices. CARES personnel include physicians, registered nurses, assessors, administrative support staff, office supervisors, and regional program supervisors.
