ETS

  • Are the TOEFL primary reading and listening scores interpreted by ETS?

There are no passing or failing scores set by ETS for the TOEFL Primary tests. If there are any questions about how scores have been interpreted, contact the institution that administered the test. TOEFL Primary Reading and Listening test scores include levels and scale scores.

  • Do listening and reading tests measure communicative ability?

Such criticisms were, at least in part, the motivation for the TOEIC program’s development of Speaking and Writing measures. The point here is that although listening and reading tests may provide an indirect indication of speaking and writing ability, they do not provide a comprehensive assessment of communicative ability.

  • How does the ETS speaking test work?

Test questions are administered via computer or tablet, and a headset is provided to test takers for listening to prompts and speaking responses. The recorded responses are scored by trained raters at ETS. The Speaking test starts by asking test takers some basic questions about themselves to make sure headsets work properly.

  • What is the TOEIC® Listening and reading test?

The TOEIC® Listening and Reading test is a paper-and-pencil-based test divided into listening comprehension and reading comprehension. The TOEIC® Speaking and Writing tests are computer-based tests administered separately from the TOEIC Listening and Reading test.
