How do I generate a new ECID for a first-time visitor?
For first-time visitors who don’t have an ECID yet, this command generates a new ECID. getIdentity also returns the region ID for the visitor. This method is typically used with custom solutions that require reading the Experience Cloud ID or need a location hint for Adobe Audience Manager. It is not used by a standard implementation.
What is ECID in Adobe Experience Cloud?
The ECID is a shared identity namespace used across Adobe Experience Platform and Experience Cloud applications to track visitor behavior and ensure that each device has a unique identifier that can persist across multiple sessions. The Experience Cloud Identity Service, Experience Platform Identity Service, and ECID are three different entities.
How do I Capture an ECID?
There are a few ways to capture the ECID if you need to store it as part of your integrated solution. Adobe provides a highly scaled service for ECIDs to be generated, assigned and retrieved. This service is accessed through a Javascript API , Adobe Experience Platform Launch, direct endpoint integration and the Adobe mobile SDKs .
How does Adobe Experience Cloud Identity Service work?
When a new user arrives on your website, Adobe Experience Cloud Identity Service attempts to set a device identification cookie for that user. For first-time visitors, an ECID is generated and returned in the first response from the Adobe Experience Platform Edge Network.
