9 4 skills practice solving quadratic equations
How do you get good at quadratic equations?
Set the equation equal to zero.
If the quadratic side is factorable, factor, then set each factor equal to zero.
If the quadratic equation involves a SQUARE and a CONSTANT (no first degree term), position the square on one side and the constant on the other side.
Then take the square root of both sides.Study summary
Study summary
1Move the constant to the right side of the equation.
2) Divide both sides by the constant.
3) To complete the square, add or subtract the same value to both sides.
4) Factor the expression on the left side of the equation.
5) Calculate the sum or difference on the right side of the equation.
6) Solve the equation.
What are the learning objectives for solving quadratic equations?
Learning Objectives
Solve quadratics by the square root property, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula.Graph a quadratic function by using properties or transformations.Solve quadratic inequalities by graphing, or algebraically.Find the extreme value of a quadratic function. What are 3 common techniques for solving a quadratic equation?
Three methods for solving quadratic equations are factoring, completing the square (square root method), and the quadratic formula.
An explanation for how to solve quadratic equations using each of these methods can be found in the subsequent sections.
