How do Cambridge English Qualifications work?
Cambridge English Qualifications are aligned to this scale, so candidates who pass them can say that they have demonstrated that their ability in English is at the level of the grade they obtained – if you have a C grade in B2: First (formerly Cambridge English: First- FCE), for example, you have demonstrated that your English use is at B2 level.
Is the Cambridge English Scale aligned to the CEFR?
The Cambridge English Scale is aligned to the CEFR, and each of our exams covers a particular section of the scale. This means that a particular score on the Cambridge English Scale represents the same level of language proficiency, no matter which exam is taken. For example, scores between 180 and 199 cover CEFR Level C1.
What is a C1 Advanced Grade?
Candidates who have secured a C1 Advanced grade C, having scored between 180 and 192 on the Cambridge English Scale, are at Level C1 of the CEFR and can be expected to be comparable in ability with candidates who have secured 6.5 or 7.0 in IELTS. Candidates who have secured scores between 180 and 190 in B2 First are awarded a grade A for that exam.
