What is the difference between ATmega328p PU and ATmega328p AU?
In plain English, the -AU is a surface-mount part, and the -PU is a breadboard-friendly chip.
As far as functionality, there is virtually no difference.
The 32A package exposes pins for ADC6 and ADC7, which are not available on the 28P3 package, but they are otherwise identical.The ATmega328p has two internal oscillators, one clocked at 8MHz and one at 128kHz.
By default the fuses of the ATmega328p are configured that the internal 8MHz oscillator can be used.
This allows the ATmega328p to be operated without any external components at a supply voltage anywhere between 2.
