categorical data statistics
What is the difference between categorical and descriptive statistics?
Categorical data is typically more straightforward to work with. Recall descriptive statistics consists of visual and numerical methods. We usually start with visual methods and then move into numerical.
What are categorical variables?
Counts of individual items or values. Measurements of continuous or non-finite values. Categorical variables represent groupings of some kind. They are sometimes recorded as numbers, but the numbers represent categories rather than actual amounts of things. There are three types of categorical variables: binary, nominal, and ordinal variables.
What is categorical data?
Often, purely categorical data are summarised in the form of a contingency table. However, particularly when considering data analysis, it is common to use the term "categorical data" to apply to data sets that, while containing some categorical variables, may also contain non-categorical variables.
