Tobacco use may contribute to deaths due to a wide variety of diseases; for example tobacco use contributes to many deaths due to emphysema or lung cancer and 

  • Advances in health care make death more difficult to accept than ever before.
    Death is no longer an inevitable reality for many, the end point of having been born.
    Death is viewed as a defeat, and anything less than heroic measures to keep someone breathing is considered a failure to treat fully.

  • How do you write a death cause?

    Report each disease, abnormality, injury, or poisoning that you believe adversely affected the decedent.
    A condition can be listed as “probable” even if it has not been definitively diagnosed.
    The underlying cause of death is that disease condition, injury, or poisoning that ultimately results in the death of a person.

  • How do you list cause of death?

    The cause of death should reflect your medical opinion as based on the medical record.
    In Part I, document the complete chain of events that best explains why this patient died.
    The last item is the underlying cause that began this sequence.
    In Part II, document other conditions that contributed to death.

  • What is an example of a natural cause of death?

    Death is usually considered “natural” if it wasn't caused by an external factor.
    Simply put, a “natural” death is one that occurs due to an internal factor that causes the body to shut down, such as cancer, heart disease or diabetes.
