Is Open Access the same as PPO?
To the consumer there is no difference between a PPO and an Open Access POS plan - both plans allow you direct access to physicians with no referals and services received in network will be reimbursed at a greater benefit level.
A PPO offers more flexibility with limited coverage or reimbursement for out-of-network providers.
An EPO is more restrictive, with less coverage or reimbursement for out-of-network providers.
For budget-friendly members, the cost of an EPO is typically lower than a PPO.
What is the difference between PPO and HMO?
HMO plans typically have lower monthly premiums.
You can also expect to pay less out of pocket.
PPOs tend to have higher monthly premiums in exchange for the flexibility to use providers both in and out of network without a referral.
Out-of-pocket medical costs can also run higher with a PPO plan.
What's the difference between an HMO and a PPO with Aetna?
What is the main difference between the HMO-EPO plan and the PPO plan? The HMO-EPO plan only provides in-network coverage for services, except for urgent and emergent care which would be covered the same out-of-network as it would in-network.
The PPO plan offers both in-network and out-of-network coverage.
