26 fév 2010 · The results of enzymatic hydrolysis have been expressed in terms of cellulose conversion and glucose yield where as the results of fermentation

  • How do you turn cellulose into glucose?

Acid hydrolysis of cellulose is a classic way to break down cellulose into glucose and can be done using either dilute acid or concentrated acid.

  • What is the enzymatic conversion of cellulose?

In enzymatic hydrolysis, cellulose chains are broken into glucose molecules by cellulose enzymes, in a process similar to what occurs in the stomach of a cow to convert grass or fodder cellulose into sugar.
Xylanose and hemicellulose enzymes can convert many cellulosic agricultural residues into fermentable sugars.

  • What is the conversion rate of cellulose to glucose?

Here, the rates of cellulose to glucose conversion and cellulose recovery are ~90%, greater than the dilute acid pretreatment.
For reducing the cost further after hydrolysis, acid is removed to avoid sugar neutralization.

  • Cellulose is mainly used to produce paperboard and paper.
Smaller quantities are converted into a wide variety of derivative products such as cellophane and rayon.
Conversion of cellulose from energy crops into biofuels such as cellulosic ethanol is under development as a renewable fuel source.

Cellulose conversion for enzymatic reactions was calculated as: Cellulose conversion (%) = 100*[0.90*(Glucose, g/L +1.053*Cellobiose, g/L)]/ Initial cellulose, g/L where 0.90 and 1.053 are the mass conversion factors based on the stoichiometry for conversion of glucose to cellulose (162/180) and cellobiose to glucose (
