How long does a CHAPS transfer take?
A CHAPS payment to an external bank is guaranteed to arrive on the same day you request it.
Here's how that works: If you make your request before 4.25pm on a working day, the funds will arrive on the same day.
We process requests made after 4.25pm on the next working day.What is the difference between CHAPS and BACS?
As explained above, CHAPS is significantly faster than BACS as it clears the transactions in a matter of hours, making same-day payments possible.
As BACS takes up to two to three business days to clear, it is not the best option for time-sensitive transactions.How do I make a CHAPS payment? You can do this in a branch or you can do it online, if you're registered for Online Banking and you have a PINsentry.
If you're a Business customer, you can make a CHAPS payment using Telephone Banking, if you're registered for it.
Is CHAPS the same as SWIFT?
For example, all CHAPS and TARGET2 payments are sent through the SWIFT messaging network.
It is also the go-to network for transmitting cross-border payments in multiple currencies for both business and private needs.
