3d nets lessons
What is the 3D nets activity?
A 3D Nets Activity for identifying 3D shapes
The activity asks students to work out which shape, from a choice of six common 3D shapes, matches each net template.
Examples include a cube, a cone and a triangular prism. Why do we teach nets of 3D shapes?
3D nets are great teaching tools to help students understand the properties of these shapes, as they can see and count the faces, edges and vertices with greater ease and accuracy.
Students also love decorating their nets with bright and vibrant designs … and you can make some very cool creations with them, tooThe net of a 3D shape is what it looks like if it is opened out flat.
A net can be folded up to make a 3D shape.
There may be several possible nets for one 3D shape.
What is the net of 3D shapes lesson?
Children use their knowledge of 2-D and 3-D shapes to investigate building three dimensional shapes from nets.
Children learn that a net is a two-dimensional figure that can be folded to create a three-dimensional shape.
They use measuring tools and conventional markings to draw nets of shapes accurately.
