How can you use polynomial identities to multiply expressions?
Multiplying Polynomials
1First, multiply each term in one polynomial by each term in the other polynomial using the distributive law.
2) Add the powers of the same variables using the exponent rule.
3) Then, simplify the resulting polynomial by adding or subtracting the like terms. What is an example of a polynomial identity?
A polynomial identity is an equation involving polynomials that is always true.
For example, this is a polynomial identity: (x+1)^2 = x^2+2x+1.
No matter what x is, both sides are always equal. The most important polynomial identities, also known as algebraic identities in Maths are: (a+b)2 = a2+b2+2ab. (a-b)2 = a2+b2-2ab. (a+b)(a-b) = a2-b.
How do you prove polynomial identities?
To show that an equation is an identity: Start with either side of the equation and show that it can algebraically be changed into the other side.
Or start with both sides of the equation and show that they both can be changed into the same algebraic expression.
