client/server architecture for mobile applications
Mobile Application Architectures
Application architectures are commonly modeled in terms of a client-server architecture wherein one or more client devices requests information from a server device The server typi-cally responds with the requested information (see Figure 3–1) |
What is a server architecture?
The architecture is based on a divi-sion of functionality between servers, which store data, and clients, which read and write data managed by serv-ers. A server is any machine (e.g., a mobile host) that holds a complete copy of one or more databases.
How can mobile application architectures be modeled?
Mobile application architectures can be modeled conveniently in terms of client-server architec-tures. Clients can be always connected, partially connected, or never connected to a server. The code on a client or server can be layered. A client can have zero to three layers while a server has one to three layers.
What is a client-server architecture?
Application architectures are commonly modeled in terms of a client-server architecture wherein one or more client devices requests information from a server device. The server typi-cally responds with the requested information (see Figure 3–1).
What are the three AP-proaches of mobile client-server computing?
The three systems, namely, Bayou, Odyssey, and Rover, demonstrate some ap-proaches of new paradigms for mobile client-server computing. Bayou provides a flexible client-server architecture in which a server can be any machine that holds a complete copy of one or more databases.
