How does the COBOL analyzer work?
The COBOL analyzer parses the source code, creates an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST) and then walks through the entire tree. A coding rule can subscribe to be notified every time a node of a certain type is visited. As soon as the coding rule is notified, it can navigate the tree around the node and raise issues if necessary.
What is COBOL syntax?
Cobol is a high-level language, which has its own compiler. The COBOL compiler translates the COBOL program into an object program, which is finally executed. A Syntax refers to the rules and regulations for writing any statement in a programming language. It is related to the grammar and structure of the language. COBOL syntax is very easy.
What are the components of a COBOL program?
COBOL programs are made up of familiar constructs such as paragraphs, sentences, statements, and clauses. These constructs, in turn contain elements such as words, names, verbs, and symbols. The hierarchy of a COBOL program is shown in the following diagram. It starts where the division name is encountered.
