Who invented color theory?
The modern theory of color was not laid down until 1931 by a set of classic experiments by W. D. Wright and John Guild in France, which built on the insights of many other people, including Newton, Grassmann and Maxwell. Their work lead to the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and their now standard color space.
Why is color theory important in photography?
That's because apart from getting the composition and exposure right, the photographer also played a little jedi trick with color. No doubt, color theory plays a huge role in photography yet not many of us have a good foundation knowledge or know how to utilize it to our benefit.
What is lightness in color theory?
Lightness is normally used interchangeably with brightness, luminosity and value. But in the context of color theory, brightness and lightness are different entity. Lightness is the psychological experience of the luminosity of an object. In other words, how light or dark a color appears to be.
