That means the door closer resistance must be 5 pounds or less to accommodate users' various upper extremity abilities. In addition to the standard location, there is also the option of an ADA location.
A door viewer installed at ADA height sits 48″ from the bottom of the slab.
What does ADA mean for doors?
Doors need to have at least 32 inches of width (in the opening itself) Doors must require 5 lbs. or less force to open/close without the need to tightly grasp.
Doors should have a closing speed of 5 seconds at a minimum so the user can safely clear the area.
Handles of door locks need to be levers, not door knobs.
What is the door threshold for ADA compliance?
In order to be ADA compliant, existing door thresholds are required to have a vertical height no greater than ¼”.
However, a vertical height of up to ¾” is allowed if a transition ramp is applied.
