communication satellites definition
Can a communication satellite relay multiple signals at the same time?
It is important to note that a communication satellite can relay multiple signals at the same time, using the same or a separate transponder for each communication link. A transponder is a subsystem of the communications satellite responsible for trans mitting the signal while also acting as a res ponder.
What is a communications satellite?
A communications satellite is a type of artificial satellite that is placed in Earth’s orbit for the purpose of sending and receiving communication data between a source and destination. It is used to provide data communication and relaying services for televisions, radio, telecommunication, weather and Internet services.
Who invented satellite communication?
The first practical concept of satellite communication was proposed by 27-year-old Royal Air Force officer Arthur C. Clarke in a paper titled “Extra-Terrestrial Relays: Can Rocket Stations Give World-wide Radio Coverage?” published in the October 1945 issue of Wireless World.
How do satellites work?
That is because the satellite will simply stay above a selected area (known as ‘coverage area’) and transmit or receive data continuously. Satellites in this orbit allow for permanent communication links and are usually situated at around 36,000 km altitude. Most communications satellites are situated here.
