What is the property of amine functional group?
What is the amine functional group? An amine is an organic functional group that has a basic nitrogen with a lone pair on it.
The lone pair on the nitrogen makes it a basic nitrogen.
An amine is derived from ammonia, which is a nitrogen with a lone pair and three hydrogen.Compared to amines, amides are very weak bases and do not have clearly defined acid–base properties in water.
On the other hand, amides are much stronger bases than esters, aldehydes, and ketones.
What are the properties of amide functional groups?
The amides are polar and hence can form hydrogen bonds.
Due to this property, amides have high boiling and melting point.
Amides are classified into three groups based on the substituents/groups attached to the nitrogen atom of amide.
What are the properties of amines?
Amines Physical Properties
Lower aliphatic amines have a fishy odour and are in the gaseous state.
Primary amines with 3-4 carbon atoms at room temperature are liquid.
However, primary amines with more than four carbon atoms are solid at room temperature.
Aryl amines such as aniline are mostly colourless.
