hla b27 negative spondyloarthropathy radiology
Does HLA-B27 cause spondyloarthritis?
Although common in the general population, this allele strongly contributes to the susceptibility of development of the linked family of inflammatory rheumatologic conditions collectively known as spondyloarthritis. Additional associated diseases, particularly acute anterior uveitis, are also highly correlated with possession of HLA-B27.
What are seronegative spondyloarthritides?
Seronegative spondyloarthritides, also known as spondyloarthropathies (SpA), are a group of musculoskeletal syndromes linked by common clinical features and immunopathologic mechanisms. The subtypes of spondyloarthritis are usually distinguished on the basis of history and clinical findings.
Do patients test positive for HLAB27?
Most patients test positive for the protein product of the HLAB27 gene. Imaging does not play a major role in differentiating between the subtypes as imaging features are similar, especially in early disease. Exceptions to this rule are:
Is there a correlation between Spa and HLA-B27?
There is a classic correlation between the prevalence of SpA and the prevalence of HLA-B27 gene in a given population. The strongest relationship is in AS. In the United States, the prevalence of HLA-B27 is 7% of the general population, but it is present in 90% of those diagnosed with AS .
