How do correlative conjunctions work?
Correlative conjunctions join words, phrases, clauses, and sentences of equal importance. They usually work in pairs such as ‘both/and’, ‘either/or’, ‘neither/nor’ and ‘not only/but also’. We will either start early morning or after 11 am. Neither does he look like Danish nor any other person I know.
What mnemonic is used for coordinating conjunctions?
Like the FANBOYS mnemonic used for coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions can be remembered using the mnemonic: ON A WHITE BUS. In addition, beginners can use a smaller acronym called SWABI. It is similar to the FANBOYS acronym in the sense that each of the letters in SWABI stand for one subordinating conjunction.
