Required accessible toilet rooms designed for single occupancy in other than Group R shall meet the requirements of ICC/ANSI A117.1. Each such room shall contain both toilet and lavatory, shall have a lever handle privacy lockset and shall have an emergency call system that actuates a visible and audible alarm in a normally occupied area.
Are accessible unisex bathing rooms required?
The International Building Code requires accessible unisex bathing rooms in recreational facilities with separate-sex bathing rooms that have more than one shower or bathtub fixture (§1108.2.1 in the 2000 IBC and §1109.2.1 in later editions). Additions are required to comply with requirements in the Standards for new construction.
What are the requirements for a bathing facility?
Bathing facilities must have at least one compliant shower compartment or bathtub. In transient lodging guest rooms, a portion of accessible guest rooms must have a roll-in shower with a folding seat (§224.2). Requirements in the Standards address doors, turning space, plumbing fixtures, mirrors, dispensers, shelves, and other elements provided.
