PDF LECTURE 3 SOLUTIONS CONCENTRATIONS of SOLUTIONS

Solute – the substance being dissolved (the dissolved particles) Solvent – a substance which dissolves another substance (the dissolving medium) A solution in which water is the solvent is called an aqueous solution Solution: a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances Solution= Solute + Solvent Dissolving process in water 2

PDF Mini Guide Solution Concentrations

Concentration of Solutions There are three principal ways to express solution concentration in chemistry—percentage by massmolarityand molality The following table compares these three ways of stating solution con-centration Examining the method of preparation of the three types may help you understand the differences among them

PDF Preparation of Solutions and Reagents

A solution is a mixture of two or more substances A solution concentration can be prepared as molar (M) percentage ( ) X-factor (X) or mass/volume (w/v) A working concentration is the require concentration used in a solution per experiment A stock solution has a higher concentration and can be stored longer

PDF Solutions

Composition of a solution can be described by expressing its concentration The latter can be expressed either qualitatively or quantitatively For example qualitatively we can say that the solution is dilute (i e relatively very small quantity of solute) or it is concentrated (i e relatively very large quantity of solute)

  • What does the concentration of a solution refer to?

The concentration of a solution is the amount of solute present in a given quantity of the solution. In other words, the concentration of a solution is the mass of solute in grams present in 100 g of the solution. Based on this definition, there are two main types of solutions.

  • How to calculate final concentration of solution?

To calculate the concentration of a solution, start by converting the solute, or the substance being dissolved, into grams. If you're converting from milliliters, you may need to look up the solute's density and then multiply that by the volume to convert to grams.

  • How do you change the concentration of a solution?

The concentration of a solution is measured in [amount solute]/[amount solvent]. You can change that number by adding more solute or more solvent. If you’re diluting a solution using additional solvent, you can use (C initial)*(V initial) = (C final)*(V final) to calculate how much solvent to add to reach the desired concentration.

. V le volume de la solution.
