How to partition a drive in Debian?
To create a partition, login as root on your VPS.
Use the following command to initiate the creation of a partition "fdisk /dev/vda".
Give the command "p".
You will now see your current partitions. What is the best way to partition Debian?
For new users, personal Debian boxes, home systems, and other single-user setups, a single / partition (plus swap) is probably the easiest, simplest way to go.
However, if your partition is larger than around 6GB, choose ext3 as your partition type. The recommended partition type is ext4.
For multi-user systems or systems with lots of disk space, it's best to put /var , /tmp , and /home each on their own partitions separate from the / partition.
What is the default partition in Debian?
The default file system selected in the Debian installation for Linux partitions is ext3 , a journaling file system.
